Seabed AS has successfully completed a contract to supply ROV and vessel services to Fugro Survey AS for the 2009 Offshore Gravity Monitoring and Subsidence surveys on the Troll, Sleipner, Midgard and Ormen Lange fields. The end client was StatoilHydro AS.
Completion of this work-scope involved taking 513 gravity measurements on pre-installed benchmarks using the uniquely developed instrument package ROV Deep Ocean Gravimeter (ROVDOG). During the 28 day campaign the system performed 272 dives with over 500 hours in the water while accumulating only 0,4% down-time.
The combination of the vessels Voith Scheider propulsion system and the active heave compensated Odim LARS contributed to the success of these operations in sea-conditions of up to 4m significant wave heights where both minimising time between measurements and care in handling of the ROVDOG contribute to the quality of data acquired.
“The survey was a great success because the pilots all took the job seriously, they listened carefully to our requirements, and then they worked diligently to meet those requirements. They were willing to collaborate with us to obtain high quality measurements.” said Mark Zumberge, Research Geophysicist, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Scripps team leader onboard the Seabed Worker.
